Getting a Permanent Resident Card:

As a permanent resident cardholder, one needs to be able to furnish it anytime while entering Canada. You will need to provide a Canadian mailing address via mail or via an online application tool within 180 days of entering into Canada and the new card will be sent to you. Failure to do this within the 180 day period results in a $50 processing fee for a new card.

You are eligible for a new card, if:

  • Your card is lost
  • Your card is stolen
  • You have legally changed your name
  • Your card has expired or will expire in the next nine months

The application process includes getting copies of your passport and supplying a photo for the card. Next, pay your application fees online and submit your application for processing. The processing times will vary based on the time of year you are applying.
